In recent years, Pix has become the most popular payment method among Brazilians. On Friday, September 6, the method reached a record with 227 million transactions completed in a single day. According to the Central Bank of Brazil (Bacen), in August 2024, 153 million people and 15 million companies moved nearly 2 trillion reais in instant payments. With this popularity, the number of companies participating in Pix is also growing. Among them is Issuer Payment Institution, managed by Evertec, which has recently been authorized to operate as a Pix Direct participant.
With this authorization, the company, which was already connected to the Instant Payments System (SPI) as an indirect participant, now offers Pix services directly to its customers. This integration opens new opportunities for Evertec to expand its offerings, quickly adapt to regulatory changes, and meet the growing demand from customers for more efficient and secure payment solutions.
"Connecting Pix Direct services from Sinqia’s PSTI (Information Technology Service Provider) Platform with our IP was the next step after acquiring Sinqia. We are excited about this advancement, which will bring more agility, security, and lower costs for Evertec’s customers. This capability will also provide us with more independence and flexibility to continue innovating in the instant payments market"
Daniel Oliveira, Evertec's Vice President of Payments
The implementation of this modality uses the services of Sinqia’s PSTI, a company acquired by Evertec in 2023, integrated with the Central Bank. Sinqia’s PSTI enables a direct connection between financial institutions and Bacen, ensuring that all transactions are processed in real time, in compliance with the security and regulatory standards established by the regulator. Additionally, the automation of critical processes such as payment clearing, and settlement enhances operational efficiency.
This integration opens new opportunities for Evertec to expand its offerings, quickly adapt to regulatory changes, and meet the growing demands from customers for more efficient and secure payment solutions. According to the Central Bank, there are currently 676 companies operating in Pix Indirect and 163 in Pix Direct.
Pix is an instant payment system in Brazil that allows individuals and companies to transfer money between bank accounts in real time, 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Companies can participate in Pix in two ways: as indirect operators, using a third-party infrastructure to offer the service, or as direct operators, connecting directly to the Central Bank to process payments. According to the Central Bank, there are currently 676 companies operating in Pix Indirect and 163 in Pix Direct.
