Sicredi expands its consortium portfolio with Evertec’s support and bets on continuous modernization to accelerate growth

Digital modernization in the consortium sector combines legacy systems, APIs, automation and artificial intelligence to create more efficient financial journeys. The Sicredi and Evertec case demonstrates how continuous technology evolution can streamline critical processes, enhance member experience and support business growth without replacing core platforms or disrupting highly regulated operations.

The partnership modernized the operation’s digital journey without replacing the legacy system; in three years, the cooperative grew from BRL 18 billion to BRL 70 billion in consortium credit.

Brazil’s consortium market is experiencing its best historical moment, and the digital experience has become one of the main competitive differentiators for administrators. It is in this context that Sicredi’s trajectory stands out: between April 2023 and May 2026, the institution’s consortium credit portfolio grew from BRL 18 billion to BRL 70 billion in three years, nearly quadrupling.

Among the factors behind this growth is a long-term technology partnership with Evertec. The strategy adopted was deliberately different from the industry standard: rather than a large-scale technology migration, the bet was to evolve the operation incrementally, building new digital journeys, integrations, and automations around the existing core system — without interrupting it.

“The challenge was to innovate without compromising the stability of a highly regulated operation that serves millions of Brazilians. The decision was to create a continuous evolution, respecting the legacy and putting the member experience at the center,” says Luciana Precaro, Director of Consortiums at Evertec Brazil.

A squad for a billion-dollar challenge

The execution of this strategy was led by a dedicated Evertec squad, with specialists in product, architecture, development, and quality. Over three years, the team delivered 163 projects working directly on the evolution of Sicredi’s consortium digital ecosystem. The operation’s core system, Newcon4, is a highly critical platform — any change can impact hundreds of cooperatives and millions of transactions. The peripheral modernization strategy allowed the team to move forward with agility without exposing the operation to unnecessary risks.

One of the most significant deliveries was the creation of Sicredi’s first digital self-contracting journey for consortiums. Integrated into the Sicredi X app through APIs developed by the squad, the solution allowed members to purchase shares directly from their phones, 24 hours a day — previously, contracting required a branch visit, an advisor, and business hours. The new journey has already generated over BRL 80 million in credit sold through the digital channel, according to Sicredi’s internal data.

Beyond the commercial front, the squad modernized critical operational processes. The integration of PIX for first installment payments has already processed over BRL 25 million in collections. Another significant advance came from Artificial Intelligence combined with OCR technology (optical character recognition) to accelerate credit release, with data validation, rule application, and document verification: the turnaround time for payment of new movable assets was reduced from 6 to 2 days — a direct efficiency gain that also translates into a better experience for members throughout the entire credit granting journey.

The automation of unidentified payment returns, which previously required a full day of manual work per processed batch, made the process automatic, scalable, and virtually error-free. The team was also responsible for implementing the IFRS 9 requirements (BCB Resolution No. 4,966/21) and developing APIs to comply with Brazil’s Tax Reform.

Technology as strategy

The model adopted by Sicredi and Evertec reflects a growing trend in the Brazilian financial system: rather than replacing large platforms, institutions have been pursuing continuous evolution models, combining legacy systems with APIs, automation, and dedicated teams. In this format, technology ceases to be a one-off initiative and becomes a permanent part of business strategy.

“The differentiator is not just the technology. It is the continuity. When the team has a deep understanding of the institution’s business, systems, and strategy, innovation stops being a project and becomes part of the operation,” says Precaro.
